Mari State Medical University

Mari State Medical University was founded in 1972. Located in the city of Yoshkr Ola, The Capital of Mari EI Republic, Volga Federal District, Russia. In Mari State Universtiy there is an effective feedback system which helps the university authorities to take into account the studetns opinions about important decision-making.

Mari State University plays a key role in training qualified specialists. Education is carried out in 55 areas and 3specialities. More than 8,000 students study at the university. Around 2,500 students live in halls of residence. The Teaching staff includes about 100 doctors of sciences and professors and 400 candidates of sciences and associate professors.

Mari State University is recognized by Medical Council of India and listed by WHO, Education Medical Council, UNESCO, etc.

Mari State University consists of 6 faculties and 5 institutes that train well Educated specialists for most sectors of the Russian national economy. Mari State University is one of the five founder members of the International Association of Finno-Ugric Universities, one of the forty-one members of Russia’s Association of Classical Universities. The University campus comprises 7 educational buildings and 8 halls of residence and occupies a total area of 128 000 m2.

Student life at Mari State University is so diverse that anyone can find something to his/her liking-scientific communities, Interest clubs, sports schools, volunteering, charity work, public work, cultural events, and as a whole-constant movement, development, exchange of experience, and communication with students from other higher education institutions in Russia and other countries throughout the world.

There are student scientific societies in each faculty or institute, with the university’s main student scientific society as the centre uniting them, which offers participation in youth forums, seminars, and conferences on

The city, republican, regional, national, and international levels. This serves as an opportunity for students to exchange experiences with students from different cities, and to get acquainted with the culture and sights of beautiful cities in Russia and around the world while traveling.

The capital of the Mari EI Republic is a dazzling gem on the map of Russia. Translated from the Mari Language “Yoshkar-Ola” means “Red City”, that is “beautiful City”. And it is Rally true. Amazing architectural ensembles, the beauty of boulevards and streets fit perfectly into the colour of the modern and hospitable city. The City was founded in 1584, until 1919 it was called Tsaryovokokshaisk, then –Krasnokokshaysk, and since 1927 the city has had its current name - Yoshkr Ola. In 1990 it was included in the list of historical cities of Russia. The capital of Mari EI is located 150 kilometres from the city of Kazan and 862 kilometres from Moscow. The City is connected with the capital of the Russian Federation by railway and air Communications.

Mari EI is a land of great natural beauty, rich in beautiful lakes and coniferous-deciduous forests.It is located to the east of the East European Plain, in the middle reaches of the Volga River. The majority of the republic is located on its left bank. The length of the territory from north to south is 150km, and from west to east it is 275 km. In the south, the Mari EI Republic borders the Chuvash Republic and the Republic of Tatarstan, in the West it borders the Nizhny Novgorod oblast, and in the north and east it borders the kirov oblast. The length of the borders of Mari EI exceeds 1200 km, and the total area is 23.4thousand square kilometres. The population of the republic is about 700 thousand people. The official languages are Mari (meadow and highland) and Russian.The climate is moderately continental with long cold winters and warm summers.The average summer temperatures range from +18. +20 C in winter. The hottest weather is in the Middle of July. The air warms up to +34, +38 C. Winter begins in November. The Mari EI Republic is a great place for winter sports such as skiing and skating. Spring is generally fresh and dry. The Volga River is the longest river in Europe and the largest in terms of its watershed. It flows for a distance of 155kilometers throught the Mari EIRepublic. On its banks, the museum of the ancient city of Kosmodemyansk and Sheremetevo Castle in the village of Yurino welcome visitors. In addition of the Volga, there are 11large Rivers in the republic. In total, there are 476 rivers. 200 large lakes are national property of Mari land. They invariably attract visitors with their summer coolness and pure, refreshing water. Most cave-in lakes are located in forest areas and are very picturesque. On their banks are many hiking trailsm parking lots, camping sites, sports camps, vacation homes and health resorts. National Park “Mari Chodra” (“Mari forest”) is a very interesting natural complex. The park’s territory includes the health resort “Klenovaya Gora” and such popular tourist attractions like the spring “Zeleniy Kluch”, Lakes “Yalchik” and “Gluhoe”, and the rivers llet’ and Yushut. The oldest specimen of oak, which is called Oak of Pugachev is also located there. It is a natural monument, protected by the state. For tourists, there is a developed network of transportation routes represented by all modes of transport: there is a river network on the rivers Volga and Vetluga with landing stages at Zvenigovo, Volzhsk, Kozmodemyansk, Yurino, and Kokshaysk. The Yoshkar-Ola airport operates flights to Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, and Saratov. There are railways to Moscow and Kazan and highways to Cheboksary and Kazan.

The campus university is safe. Students of the University live in comfortable hostels, located in a quite part of the City. The hostels are provided with all the facilities for study and rest.
